Position Summary

Professional and dependable Junior Marine Wildlife Husbandry Technician to assist in operational activities related to wildlife husbandry and operant conditioning as instructed by supervisors, as follows: Assist in implementing standard operating husbandry procedures; Insures compliance with requirements of various professional associations and regulatory agencies; Works toward further advancing husbandry, and habitat enclosures; Implements animal medical operant conditioning and environmental enrichment programs; Works with veterinarian and assigned staff in developing and achieving animal care and operant conditioning goals that promote the mission and vision of the Center, coinciding with professional associations and accreditations; Works with other areas of the Center in the evaluation and development of enhanced animal care.

If you are able to take between three to six months off and you have bear behaviour or hand-rearing experience and love the opportunity to experience life in Indonesia, this may be the right change for you. Salary: £17,077 pa + Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium animals

The Opportunity
We are looking to recruit an experienced aquarist with a minimum of three years experience who is looking to take the next step in their career development.

We are offering you the chance to develop your skills by combining your role as an aquarist simultaneously completing a distance learning Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium animals provided by Sparsholt College in conjunction with BIAZA, funded by us. This is a two year nationally recognised industry qualification, City and Guilds level 3.

Whilst we do not guarantee a permanent position as a displays supervisor you will be best placed to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. Animal attractions form a large part of Aspro Parks with 80 centres operating in 11 countries across Europe.

About Bristol Aquarium
In your aquarist position at Bristol Aquarium you will have a unique opportunity to work with a diverse range of aquatic species and habitat displays, including a large selection of temperate marine exhibits, a botanical house, tropical freshwater exhibits and a large range of tropical marine displays that include a stunning 250,000 litre coral seas display. In addition you will be actively involved in the operation and maintenance of the LSS and delivering a range of informative and inspiring talks to our visitors.

About You
You have already been working as an aquarist for a minimum of 3 years; have an understanding of science equivalent to grades A-C at GCSE level; familiar with IT and computers and may already have completed a relevant degree or vocational course.

You are keen to learn and progress and wish to develop supervisory and leadership skills as well as continue to develop your knowledge of Zoo and Aquarium operations.

You should be a natural communicator with an ability to transfer your infectious enthusiasm for our aquarium to guests and colleagues alike.

This is full time post working on a rotation basis which includes regular weekends and bank holidays.

Miami Seaquarium Position Opening - Aquarist

Miami Seaquarium is seeking qualified applicants for all levels of aquarists.  The basic requirements of the position are listed below.  As part of the Aquatics team, aquarists work with the collection of fish and invertebrates that showcase the amazing aquatic animals and habitats of Florida.



Minimum requirements:

  • 18 years old and college degree in Marine/Life Science or related field, or commensurate experience.

  • 2+ years experience working as an Aquarist at an accredited animal aquarium or zoo (HC or AZA) or in a professional animal environment such as an aquaculture facility.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of general fish and invertebrate biology, nutrition, natural history and behavior.

  • Proven experience with habitat maintenance, animal food preparation & nutrition requirements, general husbandry practices and animal restraint/capture techniques.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of life support system operations and design.

  • Proven experience with performing animal interactions with guests.

  • Demonstrated excellent animal observation and record keeping skills.

  • Demonstrated professional presentation skills.

  • Pass all required department tests, including a swim test.

  • SCUBA certification from an internationally recognized certifying agency.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to recognize and correct normal operational challenges or seek prompt assistance from senior personnel.

  • Possess the characteristics of an Animal Care professional demonstrating competence, professionalism, teamwork, mutual respect and commitment to the mission of Miami Seaquarium.

Discovery Officer



A wonderful opportunity has risen for a Community Officer to join our growing learning team.

This role will lead our community education provision. This aspect of our work includes working with under -privileged groups such as young carers, promoting careers and aspirations within the local area and running programs which aim to improved health and wellbeing for people of all ages.

The post also involves promoting conservation and behaviour change initiatives with guests on and off site. This includes our schools ‘Roadshow’ provision and touch tables, talks and events at the park.

Our mission is to connect communities with the natural world for the benefit of future generations and this role will help to deliver this through supporting, developing and growing new partnerships taking our Safari based initiatives and messages out into the community, into schools and universities and to external organisations.

We’re looking for a bubbly, energetic, highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills, who has an interest in wildlife and conservation issues with the enthusiasm to share this with others.

Minimum 2 years’ experience in a delivery based role required (including in zoos, schools, youth organisations)

You will be expected to work flexibly working annualised hours in line with the seasonality of the business. This will include weekends and bank holidays.
