Applications are invited for a Residency in Zoological Medicine.

For the residency we seek a veterinary surgeon, ideally with at least 2 years post-graduate exotic/zoo animal experience, which may include a suitable internship. The resident will study towards a taught Masters in Veterinary Science and the European Diploma in Zoological Medicine (Zoo Health Management speciality). The resident will be involved in clinical work and clinical research and will be expected to submit for publication manuscripts based on their research work during the programme.

The MSc in Veterinary Science will develop your clinical research skills and enhance universally important skills such as scientific writing, critical reading and statistical analysis of data. The programme is open to veterinary graduates holding a degree registrable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Wild Place Project is a beautiful and rapidly expanding part of Bristol Zoological Society.

We are extremely proud of our brand and rely on our knowledgeable and dedicated staff to promote our commitment to providing a sustainable future for wild life and people. It takes hard work, passion and a real sense of community to ensure the success of our attractions, as well as providing a memorable experience for all of our guests.

We are really excited by the new addition of giraffe to our site this year and to help our site develop this project, we are recruiting for two roles to join our Animal Department.

We have one full-time position and one part-time position both of which will be working as part of the section rota, which will include weekends and bank holidays. 
Key elements of this position include a range of animal husbandry, including nutrition and health management.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a proven record of expertise in animal management, with particular experience of working with giraffe. Previous employment and/or voluntary work in a recognised animal collection, wildlife rehabilitation or field conservation programme is essential.

The full-time starting salary is £18,217 per annum for keepers with appropriate professional qualifications (e.g. DMZAA or relevant degree plus work experience). The full-time starting salary is £15,581 per annum for the unqualified keeper position, until such qualifications are gained.

Bristol Zoological Society is recruiting for a part time animal keeper & Experiences Presenter to join the team at Wild Place Project which is now in its third year of operation and expanding fast.
Building on and celebrating the natural environment, Wild Place Project is an invigorating setting that brings nature and the woodland to life. This family-led attraction focuses on fun, play and learning with children and adults being inspired to protect threatened habitats on their doorsteps as well as around the globe.
This is a new exciting role as part of the animal team, working day to day with the collection, but you will also be focusing on delivering our expanding animal experiences as well as our animal talks and presentations. You must have excellent communication skills and have the ability to deal with any problems that may arise. You will be crucial for ensuring our conservation and wildlife message is top priority, but you will be required to be flexible and assist with wider day to day operating duties as and when necessary. 

The successful applicant will ideally either be an experienced mammal keeper, who is accustomed to delivering excellent talks, or have worked within a presentations role within a zoological establishment. Ideally you will have at least two years’ full time experience of working with a variety of mammal species. Applicants should be educated to at least GCSE level to include English and a biological science and ideally have studied zoology, conservation or an animal science within further education. The successful applicant will be expected to study for the DMZAA qualification in Zoo Animal Management if he/she doesn’t already have this qualification or an acceptable equivalent.

This is a key managerial role leading the operational team on site and reporting to the CEO.  You will ensure all aspects of the operation are performed to the highest standards working closely with the existing team which includes Guest services, animal and site management.  Your role will be crucial for the delivery of an excellent guest experience and presentation of the site.


If you have a proven track record as an operational manager, in a guest focused environment or with small projects and estates management preferably within a visitor destination or conservation/wildlife venture then you might just be the person we are looking for.

This role will assist the Operations Manager with general day to day operating duties for the site, and be crucial for ensuring our conservation and wildlife message is a top priority by delivering excellent animal care standards and enrichment on site.  You will be required to be flexible and assist with wider day to day operating duties as and when necessary. 

The successful applicant will be an experienced mammal keeper and will have experience of working with zoo animals, be educated to at least GCSE level, including English and a biological science, and hold the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals - DMZAA (previously known as ANCMZA).
