ANIMAL CARE ADMINISTRATOR

ANIMAL CARE ADMINISTRATOR
 
Accountable to the General Curator, this position is directly responsible for providing general administrative support to the animal care department. This includes providing support to the Director; Animal Care, Conservation & Research. 
 
Responsibilities:
·         Provides administrative support to the Director; Animal Care, Conservation & Research; this includes arranging travel arrangements, drafting correspondence, schedule management, etc. 
·         Provides administrative support to animal care managers/curators.
·         Oversees staff uniform requirements and distribution. 
·         Coordinates the activities of a variety of meetings.  This includes confirming agenda and distributing minutes.  Specifically, the point of contact for Labour Management meetings.
·         Assists department with various items such as tracking of invoices, correspondence, product location and ordering. 
·         Assists with data entry: animal records, morbidity, mortality and pathology records.
·         Assists curators and managers by providing project assistance (data entry, CAZA, NARG program, filing, photocopying and other related duties).
·         Assists with budget management including data entry and invoice tracking. 
·         Provides reception coverage for front desk.
·         Maintains confidentiality.  
·         Other tasks and projects as required.
 
Qualifications:
¨       Graduate of post-secondary institution or equivalent degree
·         2-5 years experience in an administrative/technical/professional function.
·         Proven ability to work independently and set priorities.
·         Excellent communication (written and oral), organizational, interpersonal and research skills.
·         Strong computer skills, including MS Word and Excel.
·         Understands the importance of diplomacy and confidentiality. 
·         Professional and mature demeanour.
·         Working knowledge of zoo terminology is considered an asset.
 
Physical Demands: 
·         Sedentary position.
·         Requires extensive use of computer.
·         Some mobility on grounds required.
·         Must be available to work weekends when required.

Twycross Zoo - Deputy Registrar


Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMZS), the World Primate Centre, has over 1,000 animals and is the most comprehensive collection of primate species and subspecies in the western world.


A new, permanent position has become available for a Deputy Registrar to assist the Zoo’s Registrar in all areas related to animal records and animal transfers and to assist with the administration work within the Life Science Department. The role would suit a Biology or similar graduate or someone with high level secretarial and/or administration skills, likely to have been acquired by experience of working in a similar role. The successful candidate will be well organised, competent with computer data entry and pay close attention to detail. Working with ARKs/ZIMS databases would be an advantage but not necessary. Familiarity with the import/export of animals and associated paperwork would also be an advantage.


The role is full time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Salary is commensurate with experience.

£19,000 per annum – (full time, permanent)

The Lakes Aquarium is seeking an enthusiastic and pro-active Displays and Maintenance Manager to join the team.

Firmly established as one of the Lake District’s most popular visitor attractions, The Lakes Aquarium is home to a diverse range of creatures - from catfish and otters, to starfish and caiman!

Leading a small team, the Displays and Maintenance Manager is responsible for the development, production and maintenance of all displays, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and husbandry at all times. This includes ensuring all regulations relating to the zoo license are adhered to, and all related administration duties fulfilled.

The role also includes responsibility for the development and implementation of attraction’s educational offering - ensuring that all visitors receive an educational, informative and fun visit. In addition the Displays and Maintenance Manager is also responsible for managing general site maintenance.

This is an exciting opportunity suitable for an ambitious senior Aquarist looking to progress their career. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with a wide variety of creatures including marine and freshwater fish, mammals and reptiles. A proven track record in the aquarium industry is essential along with an organised, structured approach and can-do attitude. Relevant qualifications and project management experience are an advantage.

The position includes on-call responsibilities on a rota basis as well as weekend and bank holiday working.

A great new position has become available in our Zoo team that is primarily focussed on supporting the Chief Finance Officer in managing the financial activities of the Wellington Zoo Trust. In this role you will do a range of things from managing the Zoo’s accounts payable system and investigating ways of reducing costs across the Zoo, to booking travel for staff and liaising with Wellington City Council about matters relating to IT and phones at the Zoo.

You’ll be customer focussed and have a minimum of 3 years prior experience in an administrative or financial role working with Microsoft Office as well as Finance and Payroll systems (Peoplesoft would be an advantage). To be successful in this role you will be an organiser with strong communication skills, both written and oral. You’ll lead by example, learn quickly, be attentive to detail and always be on the look out for better ways of doing things.
