£23,838 to £27,211 per annum

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to assist with the day to day management and maintenance of the technical and animal related facilities used on the teaching programmes across our three sites.

Working closely with the Animal Collections Manager, you will be required to ensure the collection maintains a suitable number and variety of animals for teaching purposes, oversee the provision of technical support to teaching staff in the delivery of both practical and theoretical lessons, maintain all relevant records pertaining to the management of the animal units, ensure high standards of animal husbandry and welfare are maintained and co-ordinate animal duties during term times and vacations. 

The successful candidate will need to be a team player with sound academic knowledge and understanding of animal management and related subjects, at least two years relevant practical experience in a range of animal management activities and the ability to communicate effectively and credibly with industrial, educational and professional contacts, as well as students at all levels. Experience of teaching/demonstrating, supervising others and qualifications A1/A2 (D32/D33) would also be an advantage.          

As well as contributory pension scheme, sponsorship for further vocational & teacher training and free car parking, this post also attracts 30 days holiday each year (excluding bank holidays).

The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check (CRB) and to provide proof of their right to work in the UK.

The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is looking for a Centre Manager to oversee all aspects of the business and animal collection. This is a new role that has arisen from the continuous development of the centre. We are looking for a forward thinking candidate who can lead the centre forwards as a collection in line with modern zoo practices An understanding of the role of the modern zoo is essential. The right candidate will have a fundamental role in advancing the centre by actively pursuing and promoting a greater involvement in the zoo community. This is a challenging role that will cover all aspects of the business including catering, retail and events.

The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is based on a small site near Sheffield. Established in 1994 it is has developed gradually over the years from the early days as a butterfly house to the recognisable collection it is today. The ideal candidate will have:
· At least five years experience in a similar role
· Experience working with a wide range of animals including tropical species
· Experience in business planning including catering, retail and events
· Experience in implementing new research and conservation projects
· Excellent written and verbal communication
· Strong leadership skills
· Thorough understanding of the zoo licence
· Experience as an active member of the zoo community

We are looking for a responsible, organised and confident individual who can lead and motivate others in a fair but firm way. Educated to degree level or higher preferable. The role will be hands on and a willingness to actively cover different areas is essential. The position will include weekend and bank holiday working. No accommodation is available with this post.
Salary: 22-25K depending on experience

The completion of a new purpose-built Animal Management Centre and expansion of the species collection provides an excellent resource to support the education and training of learners on Further and Higher Education programmes. The Animal Collection supports an excellent range of species to meet varied needs, adding to the learning experience by providing the opportunity to work with large and small animals, reptiles, birds and aquatic species.

Reporting to the Animal Collections Manager, you will be responsible for delivering a planned programme of learning in all aspects of animal husbandry, training and assessing staff and students in the day-to-day maintenance of the Animal Collection Resource and ensuring high standards of animal welfare are consistently met.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to further develop your career in a unique educational environment. You will need relevant experience and appropriate qualifications to at least NVQ level 4, as well as assessor/verifier awards or a commitment to acquire these within a defined timescale.

An effective communicator and natural motivator, you must be capable of working on your own initiative to the highest standards, leading a team of staff and enabling learners achieve their aspirations.
