  We are Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary part of the magical Merlin Entertainments!

An opportunity has arisen to join us as a Reptile Keeper (Herpetologist) working closely with the Aquarist’s in the displays team. In this role you will support all aspects of husbandry and welfare and have the ability to work with a wide variety of animals, specializing in reptiles. The list not only includes snakes, lizards, caiman, bugs and turtles but also seals, otters, penguins and a great diversity of fish and invertebrate life. By joining us at the Hunstanton SEA LIFE Sanctuary, you will help to care for the animals, as well as the life support systems that are so vital to their wellbeing. You will also play a vital role in maintaining the exhibits to the highest possible standards and ensuring that they surpass the expectations of our visitors. You will actively engage with visitors and communicate as an expert on matters arising around displays and the creatures or marine environment working with the rest of the displays teams to generate innovative ideas to enhance displays or husbandry.

Hunstanton is also one of the few marine rescue centres caring for seals that are found abandoned or injured from all over the local coastline. The rehabilitation work will form an integral part of the role along with a variety of other conservational activities.

We are looking for the following skills and experience;

•           Previous experience within a similar environment and have achieved a qualification in Animal Management, a related qualification, or equivalent.
•           A good level of understanding of natural sciences, and knowledge of the husbandry, welfare and ethical needs of our creatures.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening and team working skills.

This role is full time, permanent, averaging 40 hours per week and will include weekends and bank holidays as required.

Reptile and Amphibian Keeper




Reptile and Amphibian Keeper

Permanent position, full time 38 hours per week. Weekend work required.

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is recruiting for the position of Reptile and Amphibian Keeper on the Lower Vertebrates and Invertebrates department. We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic, experienced keeper to deliver on all aspects of husbandry for a wide range of reptiles and amphibians.

The successful candidate will have four or more years’ experience working with reptiles and amphibians and a keen and active interest in their conservation. You must also have up-to-date knowledge and understanding of reptile and amphibian management, as well as good awareness of zoo legislation and best practice. You must have demonstrable communication skills both verbal and written; an essential part of the role is being able to converse with diverse audiences and you may be required to present peer reviewed talks at industry conferences. Proficiency with IT, specifically MS Office suite, is also vital.

In addition to the above, applicants should possess either the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals or an equivalent zoo biology focused qualification. The successful candidate will be expected to care for all species on the section and supervise junior members of staff.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Zoo Keeper to join the team at Chessington World of Adventures Resort.

About the role

Working within the Bird & Reptile Team you will take an active role in the day to day running of our awesome collection. This will include delivering unrivalled standards of animal husbandry required by our large variety of Birds and Reptiles. You will be part of the team creating the most stimulating environment possible – not just for our guests, but for the animals too - and since we’re big on conservation, education and research, you’ll have a big part to play in that too. You will also be keen to support all areas within our Zoo, which will in turn benefit your own personal development. You will ensure the Health & Safety of self, visitors and guests at all times as well as develop a personal training programme in conjunction with your Head of Section.

 About you

Our ideal candidate will have completed an animal based qualification, with some experience of working in a Zoo environment or equivalent. You will be a clear and confident speaker, able to engage with the public, delivering fun and educational presentations and more importantly an alert listener, willing to learn and develop. You will have passion and excitement for your chosen field, with a keen drive to develop your career as an Animal Keeper.
