Technician – Animal Management Centre – Paddocks & Birds
£15,075 - £18,290 (dependent upon qualifications)

The post holder will work under the direction of the Animal Management Centre (AMC) Curator in undertaking the management and husbandry of the paddock and bird section.  In addition to supporting the colleges’ education goals in this outstanding area of the curriculum, the department also has full BIAZA membership and participates in a number of conservation breeding programs.  Working with teaching staff the post holder will provide practical support, and supervision to students in practical subjects both on an individual and group basis, ensuring provision is learner focused, to achieve exemplary standards in animal welfare, teaching and customer service.

Candidates should be educated to at least level 2 in a relevant vocational subject and be able to demonstrate a professional track record of work within the animal management industry, preferably in an accredited zoo or bird park.  A flexible approach to a varied workload with a real enthusiasm for the animals you will be working with would be an advantage.The post holder will be required to work weekends on a rotational basis.

This post is based at the Sparsholt campus.

Working with instructors, the post holder will provide practical support, and supervision to students in practical subjects both on an individual and group basis, ensuring provision is learner focused, to achieve exemplary standards in animal welfare, teaching and customer service.
Candidates should be educated to at least level 2 in a relevant vocational subject and be able be able to demonstrate significant professional experience working with a range of reptile and amphibian species preferably in an accredited zoo or similar establishment. A flexible approach to a varied workload with a real enthusiasm for the animals you will be working with along with some teaching or supervisory experience would be advantageous.
This post is based at the Sparsholt campus. The college is a full BIAZA member and holds extensive collections of these taxa with many species of conservation concern.

Technician – Zoo Animal

Full-time



The College is seeking to appoint a Technician – Zoo Animal to contribute to the Animal Studies department. 



The successful applicant will be responsible, alongside the senior technician, for the daily husbandry and care of the animals housed in the “zoo animal” section of the College’s animal centre. It is essential that the successful applicant is competent in working with the species that are currently housed at the College (Emu, Rhea, Wallaby, Mara, Prevost squirrel) and those species that the College is looking to acquire in the near future (Otter, Meerkat, Scottish wildcat, Red squirrel, Lemur and various avian species). You must be prepared to undertake further training and CPD to extend your knowledge to other species that the college may acquire.



You will join a friendly team of experienced staff and will be offered training and development to build upon existing qualifications and experiences.



The successful applicant must be able to act on their own initiative whilst working to guidelines, protocols and quality standards as set out by the College and the zoo industry and posses a desire to work with young people in a lively environment and have the necessary motivation and aspiration to progress and develop themselves within the department.
