Woburn Safari Park - Head of Animal Welfare and Development


Woburn Safari Park is an award winning visitor attraction, housing endangered and exotic animals. Today it forms part of the Bedford Estate, which includes Woburn Abbey, Woburn Golf Club and The Inn at Woburn.

We are now looking to recruit a new position to join a committed team.

Head of Animal Welfare and Development.

This new role will be within a department that is committed to animal conservation, preservation and animal welfare as well as ensuring an excellent guest experience. The role will be pivotal in the strategic creation, development and management of the animal master plan, building and strengthening our reputation as a world leader and promoting the vision of the park worldwide.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day line management of the animal personnel as well as standards of animal care across the Safari Park in conjunction with BIAZA, EAZA and Zoo Inspection guidelines.

Applicants will need to be degree qualified with a minimum of 3-5 years zoo management experience. Project management and communication skills are essential, as is a good knowledge of the Health and Safety and Zoo Licensing Act which will be crucial to this role.

The position will involve weekend and bank holiday work.

Perth Zoo - Life Sciences Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION: This newly created position is responsible for the operational management of the Elephant Section. The role will also provide high level assistance to the Director of Life Sciences with key operational areas inclusive of capital project and works program management, pest control, supply and emergency response.

SELECTION CRITERIA: The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in the captive management of a range of species including large mammals; Experience in project management and delivery of project outcomes; Proven ability to manage, mentor and train staff to ensure operational requirements are met; Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills and the capacity to review and apply legislation and standards; and Knowledge of current issues relating to the conservation and captive management of wildlife. Experience in elephant husbandry, breeding and management in a relevant environment; and experience in exhibit design in a zoo environment are desirable.

Displays Supervisor - Scottish SEA LIFE & Marine Sanctuary, Oban

The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Displays Supervisor at the Scottish SEA LIFE & Marine Sanctuary, Oban.

This is a very challenging role as there is not only the husbandry of the native marine species, but also specialising in the care of resident seals and the rehabilitation & care of both common and grey seal pups.

The Person
The successful applicant will have proven supervisory skills, excellent fish husbandry knowledge, with the confidence to not only pursue, but also maximise PR opportunities, including TV coverage. You will also be involved in dealing with the public and handling media enquiries, in order to promote the business effectively.
A relevant Degree, or equivalent, is preferable, along with experience in a similar role. The ability to be creative, to bring new ideas to the development of displays, as well as project management skills and a lucid approach to problem solving, are all vital elements of this position. Supervision of the displays team, as well as ongoing ‘team building’ is seen as a pre-requisite. The ability to be flexible with working hours and a full driving licence is also vital.
