Environmental Specialist - Sea Turtle Habitat
Description
Performs
professional and technical field and administrative work in managing the sea
turtle conservation program in Indian River County. Responsible for implementing Indian River
County's Sea Turtle Habitat Conservation Plan including conducting and
coordinating daily sea turtle nesting surveys, beachfront lighting monitoring,
predator control and community outreach and involvement. Responsible for County sea turtle database management
and preparation/submission of reports to State and Federal wildlife
agencies. Provides biological and field
support to the County's Beach Management Program, Artificial Reef Program and
Lagoon Protection Programs and will assist with the writing and managing of
grants. This is a professional position
working under the general direction of the Natural Resources Manager.
Examples of Duties
Essential duties and
responsibilities require, but are not limited to. Knowledge of state and federal environmental
rules and regulations relative to protected species management on Florida
Beaches. Ability to conduct field research, collect data through sampling,
analyze data and prepare reports. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely,
both orally and in-writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with consultants, government agency officials, County staff, and
the general public. Ability to provide assessments in the event significant
coastal storms impact the County. Ability to use a personal computer and
tablet.
