Permanent - 48 hours per week

We are the Angkor Elephant Company, and for over 25 years we have taking guests on rides and experiences through the world famous Angkor Wat complex here in the Kingdom of Cambodia. In 2019, we are planning to change track and develop a new, more natural home for the 14 elephants under our care. We are looking for a passionate, talented, enthusiastic and experienced keeper and elephant manager who is prepared to work hard to help us making this transition a success.

Job Description -
Oversee all aspects of the day to day running of the Elephant Sanctuary, which includes, but is not limited to:

Elephant Management and Welfare
  - Oversee care and management of all elephants in the camp.
  - Oversee and manage all vet care for elephants in the camp.
  - Enforce camp rules and regulations for elephant care and welfare.
  - Oversee training of elephants in Positive Reinforcement training.

Management of Staff and Mahouts
  - Rostering monthly work schedule according to guest levels in camp.
  - Managing and monitoring annual leave and days off for all staff and mahouts.
  - Assigning daily job tasks.
  - Developing, coordinating, and enforcing policies, procedures, and camp rules and regulations.

Guest Activities
  - Overseeing guest activities within the sanctuary.
  - Ensuring all guest activities are conducted to the highest level of customer satisfaction.
  - Ensuring all activities follow safety guidelines and procedures.
  - Running of elephant activities as needed.
  - Developing and implementing new guest activities as needed.
  - Designing custom activities for groups or special requests.
  - Conducting talks or presentations to guest and groups on request.

The ideal candidate will have:
•        Previous experience working with Asian Elephants.
•        Some experience in training elephants in Protected and Free Contact.
•        Outstanding observational skills with an excellent attention to detail
•        Experience implementing environmental enrichment and developing strict safe working practices
•        Experience of implementing guest experiences to a very high standard
•        A valid driving license.
•        Good spoken and written English is a must.
•        Competency in the use of computers and basic software packages.

Hours of work are 48 hours per week, worked 12 days out of 14, including weekends and National Holidays.

The salary for this position is negotiable. Meals and 46 days of paid annual leave will be provided.
