About the Role:
We are looking for a
full time Aquarist to join our team at SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium! This role
works within the Curatorial team in ensuring best practice animal husbandry
ensuring that we have amazing displays of jellyfish and running a behind the scenes
Jelly lab.
This will be
achieved through the propagation and acquisition of a wide range of jellyfish
species. You will also have the opportunity to work across all exhibits within
the aquarium.
Your duties include
but are not limited to:
* Perform various
tasks across the aquarium - daily husbandry, management and welfare of the
animal collection
* Develop and
maintain excellent and innovative animal exhibits that deliver an exceptional
visitor experience
* Live food
culturing including artemia and rotifers
* Continual
propagation of jellyfish stock to maintain year round exhibits
* Implement
continually high levels of cleanliness of all the displays, food preparation
areas, plus associated plant and workshops.
* Maintain and
develop displays lighting, signage and interactive displays.
* Operating a
variety of Life Support Systems
Please note this is
a full time role that follows a three week rotating roster including regular
weekend work.
About You:
In this role
Jellyfish husbandry experience would be an advantage but is not essential. A
relevant qualification would be useful but more important is a good
understanding of aquarium life support systems, and having very good attention
to detail. You will be passionate about marine animals and will display
commitment, loyalty and a strong work ethic.
You will be an
exceptional communicator, are solution focused, and are able to use your vast
experience to work well in a successful, fast paced team. You are committed to
ensuring clean, amazing exhibits and exercise best practice animal husbandry
while delivering an amazing guest experience.
Your ability to
multi-task and have a flexible and adaptable approach along with high attention
to detail, the ability to meet deadlines and have demonstrated planning,
organisational and time management skills are highly desired.
Please note that
this role will require regular diving and appropriate certifications for diving
will be required.
