We are now looking for a Living Collections Manager to support the amazing array of birds, animals and amphibians that have made Llanelli Wetland Centre their home. Our Living Collection gives visitors the chance to get close to wetland species including our colourful flamingos and the world’s rarest goose.

This incredible role is the perfect opportunity for a zoo management professional from a large-scale visitor attraction with expertise in birds, mammals and amphibians to advance their career and support some of the UK’s most exceptional natural habitats.

The Role
As the Living Collections Manager, you will oversee the living collection area and the Collection Team at Llanelli Wetland Centre in Carmarthenshire. You will ensure that we deliver the highest standards of animal welfare as well as delivering incredible, surprising and engaging visitor experiences all year round.
Specifically, your role will involve:
- Taking responsibility for all aviculture and animal management and upkeep
- Delivering an outstanding living collections area
- Supporting our visitor engagement strategy and Llanelli Wetland Centre objectives
- Ensuring we are compliant with zoo licensing regulations, DEFRA’s Standard of Modern Zoo Practice and our own animal health practices
- Driving operational improvements that will enhance the visitor experience

About You
To be considered as the Living Collections Manager, you will need:
- Practical experience at zoo management level
- Substantial experience in large-scale visitor attractions with animal collections
- Substantial experience in the care, feeding, husbandry and breeding of birds, mammals and amphibians
- Experience of motivating a team and inspiring an enthusiastic approach to work, as well as evidence of leadership and team building skills
- An animal management qualification
- A full, valid driving licence

A degree level qualification (or equivalent), ideally in zoology, would be beneficial to your application. An IOSH health & safety qualification or equivalent would also be advantageous, as would a certificate in the use of pesticides. A firearms certificate is also desirable.
