The Secret Owl
Garden is Wales’ largest dedicated owl centre based Pembrokeshire. The centre
is dedicated to the conservation of owls and visitor education. The ethos of
the centre was built around the famous David Attenborough quote “No one will
protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have
never experienced".
We are a
high-quality tourist attraction, offering visitors the chance to experience
owls free flying throughout the day. The centre is also well known for
providing private and group flying experiences.
Requirements:
We are looking for a
candidate with a passion for animal welfare and a team focused attitude who is
ready to join our team and work hard to ensure the centre continues to develop
and maintain high standards. The successful candidate will have excellent communication
skills, self-motivation, a keen eye for detail and drive to develop new and
existing skills.
Our work is based
primarily outdoors and can be both mentally and physically demanding. A certain
level of physical capability and fitness will be advantageous to the candidate
for their own overall well-being and enjoyment in the position.
The role encompasses
all aspects of caring for owls and maintaining the centre. This will include
cleaning, preparing food, independent weight management, maintenance jobs,
flying, training and imprinting owls. The successful candidate will be able to
demonstrate experience in weight control, flying, training and imprinting owls
in their CV and covering letter. Alongside this the role is also heavily
focused on customer experience including delivering flying experiences, free
flying public displays, conservation talks, educational visits and manning
retail spaces. You must always be articulate and presentable.
Ideally you will
already be comfortable on a microphone, happy to present and entertain groups
of all sizes and varying ages.
The role is worked
over 5 days a week (Monday-Sunday), 8:30am – 5pm (4pm in the winter). There is
an expectation to participate in staff training and training/manning/imprinting
birds outside of these hours, where necessary. This includes working weekends
and Bank Holidays. Do not apply if you are a clock watcher, there are occasions
that require longer hours at short notice.
A full clean driving
licence is required.
