Temporary Position, working 80 hours per fortnight (maternity cover until April 2021)

Salary £18,135 per annum (pro rata)

Bristol Zoological Society is recruiting for the above positions of Animal Keeper. These roles will be initially based in our Mammal section at the Bristol Zoo Gardens site in Clifton, Bristol but have the potential to move to another section depending on the needs of the department. For all three roles advertised, the hours are based on a fortnightly rota, which will include weekends and bank holidays. They may also include occasional evening work.

Applicants should be educated to a minimum of GCSE level, to include English and a biological science. Experienced Keepers would be desirable having been in a paid keeper position in a recognised animal collection, however not essential. Please note these positions are unqualified keeper roles.

We’re looking for individuals with a positive outlook, the ability to work within a team and to have a good knowledge of the conservation and educational roles of zoos. We are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills, written and oral, as well as knowledge of animal training. Within the role, you will be expected to engage with our guests and deliver regular talks.

This is a practical position assisting in all aspects of management and husbandry of the Zoo’s animal collection. You will need to have a good level of physical fitness.
